Tom’s Weekly Tips, Links and Tidbits Newsletter Wednesday 18th April 2012 G’day, I trust this finds you fit and well. Got a really interesting collection for you this week. I have an amazing group of people who share much more with me than I have time to absorb, digest and pass on. Let alone doing what I need to do to make a dollar. :-) You Are SomebodySo are you!
You are somebody! Getting On Your Basic PurposeRight now you probably don’t have the time to give this the thought it deserves. Don’t let it fall through the cracks. Grab your diary and find an hour to spare then block it out to study how this diagram relates to you. During that hour, identify your place in the centre of the circles. Say What You Will (South African Remix)Watch and listen to this African remix of a really great track. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGNn0XwKlpY Tasered to Death on Suspicion of Stealing BiscuitsI recently signed the petition to demand justice for Roberto Laudisio Curti, a student who was tasered to death in Australia. Will you join me? http://www.care2.com/go/z/e/AGkV0/zmsV/OFpD Brazilian student Roberto Laudisio Curti, 21, was tasered to death by policemen merely on suspicion of taking biscuits from a convenience story in Sydney. According to several news sources, after hearing from the shop attendant that Curti had acted strangely at the store and run out without paying for a small package, six police officers chased him down and used deadly force. This, even though Curti was unarmed and did nothing to threaten anyone’s life. Following a set of three shocks, he was knocked to the pavement and could not be revived. I’d hate to think something like this could happen to you or someone you love because we did nothing to protest this tragedy. Please join me in demanding that Australia crack down on taser use by their police forces, so this never happens again. Will you join me? http://www.care2.com/go/z/e/AGkV0/zmsV/OFpD

Top 10 herbs and spices for strengthening your immune systemThe body’s defense system is only as dependable as the support it gets. Some people are just blessed with a good set of genes that ensure a strong immune system. For others who are not as lucky, they must work for immunity by observing proper nutrition, sufficient rest, a healthy active lifestyle, plenty of sun and reduced stress. Recent studies have shown that getting enough of these while cutting down on unhealthy habits and avoiding processed foods restores the immune system to peak performance. |

The English Plural According to George CarlinWe’ll begin with a box, and the plural is boxes, If the plural of man is always called men, Then one may be that, & three would be those, Let’s face it - English is a crazy language. We take English for granted, Doesn’t it seem crazy that ... If teachers taught, why didn’t preachers praught? Sometimes I think all people who speak English We ship by truck but send cargo by ship ... You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language If Father is Pop... |

Iceland Subverts SuppressionSomething I found interesting from Facebook. This is a copy so please excuse the incorrect grammar. No news from Iceland… why? How come we hear everything that happens in Egypt but no news about what’s happening in Iceland: In Iceland, the people has made the government resign, the primary banks have been nationalized, it was decided to not pay the debt that these created with Great Britain and Holland due to their bad financial politics and a public assembly has been created to rewrite the constitution. And all of this in a peaceful way. A whole revolution against the powers that have created the current crisis. This is why there hasn’t been any publicity during the last two years: What would happen if the rest of the EU citizens took this as an example? What would happen if the US citizens took this as an example. This is a summary of the facts: 2008. The main bank of the country is nationalized. The Krona, the currency of Iceland devaluates and the stock market stops. The country is in bankruptcy 2008. The citizens protest in front of parliament and manage to get new elections that make the resignation of the prime minister and his whole government. The country is in bad economic situation. A law proposes paying back the debt to Great Britain and Holland through the payment of 3,500 million euros, which will be paid by the people of Iceland monthly during the next 15 years, with a 5.5% interest. 2010. The people go out in the streets and demand a referendum. In January 2010 the president denies the approval and announces a popular meeting. In March the referendum and the denial of payment is voted in by 93%. Meanwhile the government has initiated an investigation to bring to justice those responsible for the crisis, and many high level executives and bankers are arrested. The Interpol dictates an order that make all the implicated parties leave the country. In this crisis an assembly is elected to rewrite a new Constitution which can include the lessons learned from this, and which will substitute the current one (a copy of the Danish Constitution). 25 citizens are chosen, with no political affiliation, out of the 522 candidates. For candidacy all that was needed was to be an adult and have the support of 30 people. The constitutional assembly starts in February of 2011 to present the 'carta magna’ from the recommendations given by the different assemblies happening throughout the country. It must be approved by the current Parliament and by the one constituted through the next legislative elections. So in summary of the Icelandic revolution: Have we been informed of this through the media? No! Has any political program in radio or TV commented on this? No! The Icelandic people have been able to show that there is a way to beat the system and has given a democracy lesson to the world. |
