The Formula Racket - Corporate Greed or Healthy Babies?

Fact Number One: Exclusive breastfeeding for at least six months is best for infants and new mothers.

Fact Number Two: Hospital giveaways of infant formula samples to new mothers reduce the amount and length of breastfeeding.

Given these two facts, why would hospitals serve as marketing agents for infant formula companies by giving away free samples of infant formula? Why do the formula companies — Nestle, Abbott and Mead Johnson — think they can get away with practices that undermine public health? http://www.counterpunch.org/2012/04/10/corporate-greed-or-healthy-babies/

Saturated Fats Are Bad, Right?

I received this in a newsletter today from "Coach Josh" at www.7daybellyfatbllastdiet.com and thought it worth sharing with you as it is in line with other data I have on the subject.

It’s common knowledge. Saturated fat is bad for you because it causes heart disease and belly fat, right?

And you should definitely cook with polyunsaturated vegetable oils like soybean oil and canola oil instead of saturated fats like organic butter or coconut oil, right?

Think again!

You see, studies have shown that the saturated fats found in coconut oil actually reduce bad cholesterol levels and stomach fat.

In a 12-week study 40 women between the ages of 20 and 40 were randomly split into two groups. Each group was given approximately two tablespoons of either soybean oil or coconut oil and instructed to follow a reduced calorie eating plan and to walk 50 minutes a day.

At the end of the study the "coconut oil group" increased their good cholesterol, reduced their bad cholesterol and significantly reduced their waist circumference (stomach fat).

The soybean oil group basically had the exact OPPOSITE results on their cholesterol levels and they didn’t lose any stomach fat.

Don’t be fooled by clever advertising. Organic sources of fat like coconut oil and butter (from grass fed cows) are full of nutrition and are MUCH better for you than processed vegetable oils that cause inflammation in your body.

Corporate Power

Destruction of individual rights and pollution of natural resources and the food supply is not healthy.

Humour

Socks Without Partners

Ain’t This The Truth

I can SO remember this happening when our children were living at home. Funnily enough it does not seem to happen any more.

Ask a Silly Question...

Every time I receive this email I laugh out loud.

I’ve got 2 dogs. I bought a large bag of Meaty Bites at Big W and was standing in line at the check-out.

A woman behind me asked if I had a dog.

On impulse, I told her that no, I was starting The Meaty Bites Diet again, although I probably shouldn’t because I’d ended up in the hospital last time, but that I’d lost 25 kgs before I woke in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IV’s in both arms.

I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is to load your pants pockets with Meaty Bites and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry & that the food is nutritionally complete so I was going to try it again.

I have to mention here that practically everyone in the line was by now enthralled with my story, particularly a guy who was behind her.

Horrified, she asked if I’d ended up in the hospital in that condition because I had been poisoned by the food. I told her no, it was because I’d been sitting in the middle of the road licking my dick and a car hit me.

I thought one guy was going to have a heart attack he was laughing so hard as he staggered out the door.

Human Rights

Great message, upbeat and well produced!
Only thing I disagree with, human rights are not free.
They are fought and paid for by the actions of those
who are vigilant and responsible. http://www.youtube.com/watch?&v=TVaX_rVLyhs

Request From Amnesty

I signed this petition and am forwarding it to you. Seems like a palty contribution to human rights compared to that made by those risking their very lives on the front lines. But then again, even the giant wave of a tsunami is made up of water atoms. Your voice, my voice, the peopleto whom you forward this, they all add up.

My name is Dina Meza, and I am a human rights journalist in Honduras.

I have dedicated my life to revealing the corruption and injustice oppressing Hondurans. Today I ask for your help defending the fundamental human right of freedom of expression.

Powerful people in my country wish journalists dead -- because we have exposed human rights abuses, and covered issues related to corruption, state abuses and the actions of powerful groups.

Our families are also targeted. My children and I have been followed and photographed by two men not known to me.

Amnesty International is calling on Honduran officials to investigate these vicious threats against me and to protect my rights and the rights of all journalists in my country. Please take this action immediately. http://www.kintera.org/TR.asp?a=9iIQL5MHLcILK0NRE&s=hwJVLeNWLcIWKgM0JwE&m=ekJPL6NTIoL3JoL&af=y
