A person commented that she had given up trying to convince the pro-vaccination crowd of the dangers of vaccines. I responded:
Maxime, your experience matches mine. It actually throws a person into a confusion when you disprove their stable datums in life. As a result, many people strenuously resist having their stable datums disproven. In fact, they hold onto the wildest untruths to avoid confusions.
Try asking, "If I were to show you evidence that they were neither safe, nor effective, would you change your belief?" If they say "No." then say, "When you are prepared to stop believing fairy tales and actually look, let me know and I will provide some references for you." and walk away.
If they say "Yes." you may still be wasting your time trying to "prove" something they are not prepared to look at. Instead, give them a link to a site or two and tell them to check back with you after they have read the data.
I have collected a few good links here: http://tomgrimshaw.com/tomsblog/2012/02/10/vaccination-data-and-references
That attitude will take the stress out of your conversations, put you at cause and leave you more time to talk to those willing to look.
