It’s just come to light that former Prime Minister Scott Morrison self-appointed himself joint Minister across several portfolios – in secret.
Literally in the shadows, Morrison gave himself powers to make captain calls on the health, finance, and resources portfolios, without anyone in the public knowing.
It was a shameless power grab, one with new details being revealed at unprecedented velocity. Tom, what we do know is that while Morrison secretly held the resources portfolio, almost thirty million dollars of public money was granted to frackers in the Northern Territory.
No one has the right to bypass regulatory processes, and for a Prime Minister to do so is a massive slap in the face to our democracy, casting huge doubts over the integrity of how this public money was spent.
But there’s a new government in power now, and with our team meeting Climate and Energy Minister Chris Bowen this Thursday – we have the perfect opportunity to reverse Morrison’s damage.
