Outlook Express: Compacting Folders

After you have opened Outlook Express 100 times it will display a message “To free up disk space, Outlook Express can compact messages. This may take up to a few minutes..”. This is an important process to reclaimed the unused space in the mail folders, and can speed up the general performance of Outlook Express, particularly if you have a large number of emails. It is also important to observe the following procedures to prevent losing your data in the process.
- Do not shutdown Windows.
- Close all other running applications prior to compacting.
- Do not close Outlook Express whilst the process is underway.
- Do not touch your machine or open any programs while compacting.
Just leave it alone and wait until the entire process is completed.
