G’day,

Ang Lee: A Never-Ending Dream

Ang Lee

In 2013 Ang Lee won the Academy Award for Best Directing - for the second time. Afterwards, this beautiful essay resurfaced. Here is my translation of Ang Lee’s words, written in 2006 (post-Oscar win). Please credit the translation to Irene Shih (and to this blog), thank you!)

“In 1978, as I applied to study film at the University of Illinois, my father vehemently objected. He quoted me a statistic: "Every year, 50,000 performers compete for 200 available roles on Broadway." Against his advice, I boarded a flight to the U.S. This strained our relationship. In the two decades following, we exchanged less than a hundred phrases in conversation.

Some years later, when I graduated film school, I came to comprehend my father’s concern. It was nearly unheard of for a Chinese newcomer to make it in the American film industry. Beginning in 1983, I struggled through six years of agonizing, hopeless uncertainty. Much of the time, I was helping film crews with their equipment or working as editor’s assistant, among other miscellaneous duties. My most painful experience involved shopping a screenplay at more than thirty different production companies, and being met with harsh rejection each time.

That year, I turned 30. There’s an old Chinese saying: "At 30, one stands firm." Yet, I couldn’t even support myself. What could I do? Keep waiting, or give up my movie-making dream? My wife gave me invaluable support.

My wife was my college classmate. She was a biology major, and after graduation, went to work for a small pharmaceutical research lab. Her income was terribly modest. At the time, we already had our elder son, Haan, to raise. To appease my own feelings of guilt, I took on all housework – cooking, cleaning, taking care of our son – in addition to reading, reviewing films and writing scripts. Every evening after preparing dinner, I would sit on the front steps with Haan, telling him stories as we waited for his mother – the heroic huntress – to come home with our sustenance (income).

This kind of life felt rather undignified for a man. At one point, my in-laws gave their daughter (my wife) a sum of money, intended as start-up capital for me to open a Chinese restaurant – hoping that a business would help support my family. But my wife refused the money. When I found out about this exchange, I stayed up several nights and finally decided: This dream of mine is not meant to be. I must face reality.

Afterward (and with a heavy heart), I enrolled in a computer course at a nearby community college. At a time when employment trumped all other considerations, it seemed that only a knowledge of computers could quickly make me employable. For the days that followed, I descended into malaise. My wife, noticing my unusual demeanor, discovered a schedule of classes tucked in my bag. She made no comment that night.

The next morning, right before she got in her car to head off to work, my wife turned back and – standing there on our front steps – said, "Ang, don’t forget your dream."

And that dream of mine – drowned by demands of reality – came back to life. As my wife drove off, I took the class schedule out of my bag and slowly, deliberately tore it to pieces. And tossed it in the trash.

Sometime after, I obtained funding for my screenplay, and began to shoot my own films. And after that, a few of my films started to win international awards. Recalling earlier times, my wife confessed, "I’ve always believed that you only need one gift. Your gift is making films. There are so many people studying computers already, they don’t need an Ang Lee to do that. If you want that golden statue, you have to commit to the dream."

And today, I’ve finally won that golden statue. I think my own perseverance and my wife’s immeasurable sacrifice have finally met their reward. And I am now more assured than ever before: I must continue making films.

You see, I have this never-ending dream.”

Best Ben Franklin quote ever!

Benjamin Franklin

“The best thing to give to your enemy is forgiveness; to an opponent, tolerance; to a friend, your heart; to your child, a good example; to a father, deference; to your mother, conduct that will make her proud of you; to yourself, respect; to all men, charity.” ~ Benjamin Franklin

Sensationally wise words from a truly wise man.

Cinnamon

Researchers at the United States Department of Agriculture showed that one-quarter teaspoon to 1 teaspoon of cinnamon with food helps metabolize sugar up to 20 times better than without cinnamon. Excess sugar in the blood can lead to fat storage. Because cinnamon balances blood sugar levels it has the added advantage of stabilizing mood and energy levels. - Care 2 article, Top 5 spices, Michelle Cook.

Marigold As an Antiseptic Cream

Here is an ABSOLUTE must have for every home...a terrific homeopathic remedy for parents with children and people of any age: Calendula. Calendula officinalis is known to most of us as the common Marigold. Used in the tincture form or homeopathically in potency - this remedy is a powerful wound dressing and a remarkable antiseptic. When applied to a cut or abrasion - the bleeding often stops almost immediately and the wound heals cleanly with remarkable speed. Can be used after a tooth extraction, for cuts and scrapes of any origin, after surgical procedures and more. No need what-so-ever for antibiotic creams - despite their popularity. Calendula will ward of infection in perfect fashion. For serious wounds - use the tincture topically and take the remedy as a 30C internally... you will simply be astonished. - Courtesy of the Organic Consumers Association

Eating junk food while pregnant may make your child a junk food addict

A healthy diet during pregnancy is critical to the future health of your children. New research suggests that pregnant mothers who consume junk food cause developmental changes of the opioid signaling pathway in the brains of their unborn children. Consequently, these children are less sensitive to opioids released upon consumption of foods high in fat and sugar, and need to eat more to achieve a "feel good" response.

War on Life: The Kidnapping And Torture of Rico Martinez Nagel

If Mark Taylor’s story wasn’t enough to expose the extraordinary power of Big Pharma in this country, here is the ongoing saga of Rico and Lindsey. A tragic story of kidnapping and torture at the hands of the government. I warn you though: you will be outraged!

Lindsey is a Whistleblower. She exposed Big Pharma’s lies in a Documentary about Aids, called “House of Numbers”. What happened to her and her newborn son is a direct result of her whistleblowing.

Lindsey was adopted from Romania by an American couple from Minnesota. Upon being screened for entry into the U.S., they discovered that she was HIV positive. She was put on the powerful AZT drugs and she became very ill. After several months on the treatment, it looked like she was going to die, so her parents took her off the AZT drugs. Lindsey not only survived without the powerful AIDS drugs, but she flourished. She grew up into a healthy young woman.

At the time Lindsey was “diagnosed”, there were 12 children in the state of Minnesota under the age of 10 who had also been diagnosed HIV positive. Lindsey was the only one who stopped taking the HIV drugs and she is the only one that survived; the other 11 are dead!

Her story went public and was featured in the AIDS documentary and other programs. Here is a child who refused the HIV drugs and survived and grew up to be healthy, while those “treated” are now dead. Not something Big Pharma was proud of. Lindsay was too visible, too healthy, too vocal.

But wait, Big Pharma finally got its claws into the whistleblower. On December 19, 2012, at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, Lindsey gave birth to Rico, a healthy baby boy. His blood counts were indicative of health and a normal immune system. Lindsey had repeatedly declined HIV testing for Rico. Barely ten minutes after giving birth, Lindsey was ambushed by officials telling her that if she declined testing, she would lose custody of Rico. But they had already tested Rico, obviously. Afraid and cornered, Lindsey and John agreed to their demands.

“We knew Lindsey was HIV positive, but of course, we weren’t sure about Rico because there is not an accurate test for babies, as they usually carry their mother’s antibodies to HIV until about 18 months. 85% of babies born to HIV positive mothers shed their “maternal antibodies“ by themselves and never truly become HIV positive, even without any drugs.

In the second and third days of his life, Rico was placed on a battery of drugs, including the very toxic drug that almost killed Lindsey – AZT. By day 14 of his life, he was also placed on two other anti-HIV drugs. One of the drugs he was on is 45% alcohol, so it was no wonder Rico slept most all the time.”

They took the child from the mother’s breast. They are poisoning the baby and no one can stop them. Rico is still in the hospital and you can read about the horrible things they are doing to him right now in the post attached. Instead of his mother’s breast, he now has a tube feeding him. They took a perfectly healthy little boy and poisoned him and they did it all in plain sight, because they think they are above the law.

Below is the video containing footage from Lindsey’s childhood, a healthy little girl after stopping the AZT drugs that were killing her. The footage is not a good quality, but you’ll be able to at least get the story. At 4:09, you will witness the abduction of the baby. I couldn’t watch it all the way; hearing Lindsey’s crying just tore me up! There is no mother who will not get sick to her stomach after watching that kidnapping by “state officials”.

Here is the video: http://youtu.be/VgP03b7GBYA

Here is the awful saga of Lindsy and her son Rico. It was posted on February 28th:

War on Life: The Kidnapping And Torture of Rico Martinez Nagel: http://truthbarrier.com/2013/02/28/the-vendetta-the-kidnapping-and-torture-of-rico-martinez-nagel/

“Rico is hanging on to life by a thread. He’s maxed out on radiation. After Lindsey and John saw him yesterday I think it sunk in that the skin on his stomach is so tight, they realize he may not come home. Rico may not make it out of the hospital. And they are going to try to pin this on the AIDS denialists, another Christine and E.J. That’s the plan. Every sentence, on every page of the massive medical report, it’s thick like a phone book, is about how all this is a manifestation of HIV. They ambushed us. It didn’t happen to Lindsey. It happened to Rico. They went through the deck and they pulled out all four aces. They had the positive test in their hands. You see, there couldn’t be two of them. Can you imagine if Lindsey had a baby after 22 years and the baby lived? Can you imagine? They could not let this baby be healthy. There’s too much at stake.” ~ Steve Nagel, Lindsey’s father

This nightmare is still ongoing. We are the only ones who can stop this torture. Please share this story, so we could hopefully save Rico’s life and attract attention to the ongoing corruption and extraordinary power of Big Pharma, who uses social services as its envoy of abuse and destruction.

This is happening right now in America, not in Hitler’s Germany, nor Stalin’s Russia. Do something about it! This is our country and if we don’t stop this abuse, your child, or grandchild could be next! Please share this on your Facebook wall, on Twitter and whatever other social media you’re on (use hashtag #LindseyRico, as well as #PoliceState). I’m hoping we could save this family from total destruction and hopefully help other future abuses from happening!

Cannabis Smokers 10 Times More Accidents

Cannabis is second only to alcohol for causing impaired driving and motor vehicle accidents. In 2009, 12.8% of young adults reported driving under the influence of illicit drugs and in the 2007 National Roadside Survey, more drivers tested positive for drugs than for alcohol. These cannabis smokers had a 10-fold increase in car crash injury compared with infrequent or nonusers after adjustment for blood alcohol concentration.

Raw Milk Famer Aquitted Through Jury Nullification

This is great news on both counts - jury nullification and the acquittal for non-criminal activity!

A man was accused of selling raw milk, had his farm raided, was arrested, and went to trial. Luckily this jury was informed about the process of jury nullification, and their legal right to rule in favor of the accused for breaking unjust laws.

If the law is unjust, never convict! Be a fully-informed juror and understand your rights.

What The Turtle Ate

What The Turtle Ate

Dr Kathy Townsend from Turtles in Trouble with the debris extracted from a coastal sub-adult flat back turtle in Moreton Bay. Much of this was plastic bag remnants.

We are destroying all life on the planet!
We need to do more, faster to revert this scene.
Join the Plastic Pollution Revolution and help stop plastics entering our waterways.

I walk the park with my two dogs morning and night. Whenever I see a plastic bottle, coffee cup, burger, candy or fries wrapper I pick it up and put it in a bin.

I have been told I am an embarassment, that it should be left to other people whose job it is to clean up rubbish.

I guess my priorities lie with the turtles rather than not being an embarassment to some people. I am sure the turtles would not be embarassed if they saw me picking up rubbish.

Timely Quote from Walt Disney

As I see it, a person’s culture represents his appraisal of the things that make up his life. And a fellow becomes cultured, I believe, by selecting that which is fine and beautiful in life and throwing aside that which is mediocre or phony. Sort of a series of free, very personal choices, you might say. If this is true, then I think it follows that “freedom” is the most precious word to culture. Freedom to believe what you choose and read, think and say and be with what you choose. In America, we are guaranteed these freedoms. It is the constitutional privilege of every American to become cultured or to grow up like Donald Duck. I believe that this spiritual and intellectual freedom which we Americans enjoy is our greatest cultural blessing. Therefore, it seems to me, that the fist duty of culture is to defend freedom and resist all tyranny. – Walt Disney

I Am Good

I Am Good

I was recently told of an African tribe that does the most beautiful thing. When someone does something hurtful and wrong, they take the person to the center of town, and the entire tribe comes and surrounds him. For two days they’ll tell the man every good thing he has ever done.

The tribe believes that every human being comes into the world as GOOD, each of us desiring safety, love, peace, happiness.

But sometimes in the pursuit of those things people make mistakes. The community sees misdeeds as a cry for help.

They band together for the sake of their fellow man to hold him up, to reconnect him with his true Nature, to remind him who he really is, until he fully remembers the truth from which he’d temporarily been disconnected: “I AM GOOD”.

Respect Others

Respect Others

Who was it who said, “The measure of affinity and respect you have in your dealings with others is as much as anything else a reflection of how much you like, trust and respect yourself.”

Oh, it was me! But even though it is very real to me, I probably heard it or aspects of it someplace else first.

Here is what some others, far more popular than myself, have said on the subject.

Let us dream of tomorrow where we can truly love from the soul, and know love as the ultimate truth at the heart of all creation. - Michael Jackson

An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity. - Martin Luther King, Jr.

Friends can help each other. A true friend is someone who lets you have total freedom to be yourself - and especially to feel. Or, not feel. Whatever you happen to be feeling at the moment is fine with them. That’s what real love amounts to - letting a person be what he really is. - Jim Morrison

All initiation of force is a violation of someone else’s rights, whether initiated by an individual or the state, for the benefit of an individual or group of individuals, even if it’s supposed to be for the benefit of another individual or group of individuals. - Ron Paul

Li Ching-Yuen

Li Ching-Yuen

Li Ching-Yuen was a Chinese herbalist, martial artist and tactical advisor who lived to the ripe old age of 256 and sired 200 descendants during his life span, surviving 23 wives. Ching-Yuen lived off a diet of herbs and rice wine inculding lingzhi, goji berry, wild ginseng, he shou wu and gotu kola. In a 1930 New York Times article, Professor Wu Chung-chieh of the University of Chengdu discovered Imperial Chinese government records from 1827, congratulating one Li Ching-Yuen on his 150th birthday, and further documents later congratulating him on his 200th birthday in 1877 (Wikipedia, 2013). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Li_Ching-Yuen

I read this story some years ago. That’s when I added Gotu Kola and He Shou Wu to the Goji Berries I already had in my top food bars.

Just Following Orders

Just Following Orders

Sadly, most people will follow orders - all the way to digging their own graves and standing beside them, waiting to be shot.

Whereas if each victim was courageous enough to take out only one oppressor with him, the oppression would last far less and far fewer innocents would be slaughtered.

But that response from the oppressed requires the high confront of evil, independent thought, intelligent assessment of the circumstances, devising of a workable plan, effective action and execution. Those are not skills the establishment focuses on building when they create an education system to churn out robotic slaves.
